Cascade Lake

These are a few recently completed works reflecting the same composition. When they are hung next to each other they work really well together. The vibrant colors of the first work provide an energetic feeling, while the subtle grays and purples of the second work create a more subdued look. Someone recently remarked that these works are "simple yet complicated". I suppose I can see the simpleness in the naive unrefined qualities of the paintings, yet the hundreds of colors and shapes allow for a complicated feeling in the middle of this simplicity.

  1. I like these two paintings very much. I always, for some reason, respond to pictures with a limited palette, one or two or so colors. I suppose it's the graphic quality. Many problems are avoided in the process of making the work, such as relationships and all of that formal stuff. One gets the essence of the scene in a dramatic way, or at least I think I do. I like both the pictures. Congratulations on two more fine paintings. Trust you and your family are well. I expect your boys are in shoulder pads now ? Inspired by the exploits of their father from years ago ? Look forward to more works from an outstanding artist. Tom T

  2. I have really enjoyed looking at lots of the pictures on your blog. You have a very original style and many of the paintings are extremely beautiful. At first sight I thought they were collage or needlework! Thanks for posting them.

  3. Even though the two paintings are of the same location the color choices in each create a completely different atmosphere. Very nice!
